Type your brand and what you sell. We ask 3 questions your buyers ask, answered by Claude, with Perplexity as a second opinion, and show whether each answer named your brand, whether it recommended you with a place in its list, which brands it named instead and the sites it read.
How it works
Three steps, about a minute
Step 1: Enter your brand name, your website and the product or service buyers ask about.
Step 2: With web search on, we put 3 buyer questions to Claude, with Perplexity as a second opinion.
Step 3: See whether each answer named you, your place if it recommended you in a list, and the brands it named instead.
Questions where an AI model names brands
Brand mentions happen when a buyer asks a category question and the model answers with names. These are the question shapes that decide which brands an AI model brings up unprompted.
- Which sunscreen brands do dermatologists recommend for daily use?
- What brands make the most reliable cordless drills for home use?
- Which meal replacement shake brands are actually healthy?
- What are the most trusted brands of baby car seats?
- Which project management software brands do remote teams like best?
- Which coffee subscription brands are worth the price?
- What VPN brands are safe to use for banking abroad?
- Which mattress brands have the best reputation for side sleepers?
The check asks 3. On Growth, Rankli asks 50 of yours every week on Claude and Gemini.
The three kinds of AI brand mention
Counting every time a model types your brand name hides what matters. A buyer acts on a recommendation, trusts a source it can open, and mostly skims past a name dropped in passing.
Recommended in the shortlist
The strongest mention: the model puts your brand in the list it tells the buyer to consider. When the answer gives a list, the check shows your place in it, such as #2.
Mentioned in passing
A brand named as an example, a comparison or a warning is still a mention, but not a recommendation. The check shows it as named, with no place in a list.
A link to your site
When the model searches the web, the check lists the sites the answer read. A link to your website in the answer counts as a mention even when the answer spells your brand differently.
The brands mentioned instead
Each answer shows up to five other brands it named, and the report counts how many answers named each. That list is your competition in AI answers, which is not always your competition in search.
What one brand mention check leaves out
- This check asks through an assistant’s API, not the consumer app: OpenAI’s for ChatGPT, or, while ChatGPT is paused until our OpenAI access is restored, Anthropic’s for Claude. So it sees no one person’s location or history.
- For now it asks Claude, with Perplexity as a second opinion, and says which assistant gave each answer (ChatGPT resumes once our OpenAI access is restored). ChatGPT and Gemini can name other businesses for the same question.
- Three questions on one day is a sample. Brand mention tracking means asking the same questions every week; Growth asks 50 of yours on Claude and Gemini, starting with a 7-day free trial.
- The check looks for the brand name you enter and your website. Nicknames, old names and product names that do not include the brand are not counted, so enter the name buyers use.
Frequently asked questions
Which LLM does this brand mention checker ask?
ChatGPT is paused until our OpenAI access is restored, so for now each question goes to Claude through Anthropic’s API with web search on, and to Perplexity for a second opinion. The report names the assistant behind each answer. Rankli’s paid plans ask Claude and Gemini every week.
What counts as a brand mention in an AI answer?
Your brand name in the text, or a link to your website. The check tells a recommendation in a list, with your place in it, from a passing mention. Rankli’s paid plans ask the same questions every week.
Why do AI models mention my competitors and not my brand?
Models name the brands their sources describe as a fit for the question: review sites, comparison articles, forums and brand pages that answer it plainly. If those pages name a rival and not you, so does the answer. Rankli finds each question you are missing from and writes the page that answers it.
Do different LLMs mention different brands?
Yes. Each model reads the web through its own maker’s search and was trained on different pages, so Perplexity can name brands Claude leaves out for the same question. Rankli records each assistant’s answer separately, every week.
Can I track AI brand mentions over time?
Yes, with ChatGPT added once it is back. Growth asks 50 of your questions every week on Claude and Gemini and shows how often your brand is mentioned and recommended. It starts with a 7-day free trial.
