Free ChatGPT visibility checker
Does ChatGPT recommend your business? We ask it three questions your buyers ask, with web search on, and show you the answer: whether it named you, who it named instead and which pages it read.
How people ask ChatGPT what to buy
ChatGPT questions run longer than searches. People describe their situation and ask for a shortlist, a comparison or a verdict. These are the shapes that decide who gets named.
- I run a 12-person agency. What project management tool should we switch to from Trello?
- Compare the three best payroll services for a small restaurant.
- Is there a good alternative to Mailchimp that is cheaper for 5,000 contacts?
- Who is a good wedding photographer in Austin for a small budget?
- What is the best mattress for back pain under $1,000?
- Which CRM do real estate agents actually like?
- Is it worth hiring an SEO agency, and which ones do small businesses trust?
- Which moving company in Denver has the fewest complaints?
The check asks 3. On Growth, Rankli asks 50 of yours every week on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
What ChatGPT reads before it names a business
ChatGPT answers from the web and from memory. With search on, most buying questions send it to the web first, and the pages it finds decide the shortlist.
Pages its search visitor can fetch
OpenAI names OAI-SearchBot as the visitor that finds pages for ChatGPT search, and its crawler page says a site that blocks it is not shown in search answers. The free AI check tells you whether your site lets it in.
Pages that answer the question outright
ChatGPT writes from sentences it can lift. A page that answers "who is it for, what does it cost, why pick it" in its first lines gives it that sentence. A page that only says "we do it all" gives it nothing.
Forums, roundups and reviews
For "which one should I pick" questions it reads what other people wrote: comparison articles, review sites and threads where buyers ask each other. A business those pages name keeps getting named.
The same facts everywhere
When your site and your listings agree on what you do, where and for how much, ChatGPT has one story to repeat. A price that changed on your site but not on a directory is how answers go stale.
What three ChatGPT answers tell you, and what they leave out
- ChatGPT writes each answer fresh, so the names can change between askings. Growth asks 50 questions every week and reports how often you are named, not one answer.
- The check asks through OpenAI’s API with web search on. The ChatGPT app can also use a person’s location, memory and past chats, which the API does not see.
- Three questions cover one way of asking. A buyer who asks for "the cheapest" or "the best for beginners" is asking a different question with a different shortlist.
- It reads the answer for your business name and your website. A mention under a different spelling is not counted, so use the name buyers see.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if ChatGPT recommends my business?
Ask it the questions your buyers ask and read the answers for your name. This page does that for three questions in about a minute. Rankli does it for 50 questions every week on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, so you see a trend rather than one answer.
Why does ChatGPT recommend my competitor?
The pages ChatGPT read describe your competitor as a fit for the question, in words it could quote, and do not describe you that way. Rankli shows each question you are losing and who wins it, then writes the page that answers it.
Can I pay ChatGPT to recommend my business?
No setting or fee puts a business inside ChatGPT’s written answer. It names the businesses its sources describe, so the work is on those sources: your pages and what other sites say about you. That work is what Rankli does every week.
How long until ChatGPT starts recommending me?
A new page can be read the next time ChatGPT searches for that question, so answers that search can move within weeks. Answers from memory move slowly, mostly when the model is updated. Rankli asks each question again 7 and 14 days after its article goes live, so you see which kind you are dealing with.
Is this ChatGPT checker free?
Free, with no account and no email. The 7-day free trial asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini up to 50 of your questions and writes the articles for the ones you are losing.
