Free check · asks ChatGPT live, or Claude if it is unavailable
AI visibility checker for law firms
Clients now ask ChatGPT which firm to call before they pick up the phone. Enter your firm, your city and one practice area. We put three client questions to ChatGPT, with web search on, and list every firm it names.
Questions clients ask AI before they call a lawyer
Clients describe what happened and where, then ask who can help and what it will cost. ChatGPT answers each version with its own set of firms.
- Do I need a lawyer after a minor car accident in Tampa?
- How much does a DUI lawyer cost in Phoenix for a first offense?
- Which divorce attorneys in Charlotte handle custody cases for fathers?
- Who is a good estate planning lawyer in Columbus for a simple will and trust?
- Which employment lawyer in Seattle takes wrongful termination cases on contingency?
- I slipped and fell in a grocery store in Atlanta. Who should I call?
- Is there an immigration lawyer in Houston who speaks Spanish?
- Which workers’ comp attorney in Philadelphia do injured workers recommend?
The check asks 3. On Growth, Rankli asks 50 of yours every week on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
What ChatGPT reads before it names a law firm
With search on, ChatGPT answers "best car accident lawyer in San Antonio" from what its search returns: firm sites, legal directories and reviews. The firms those pages describe clearly for that practice area and place are the ones it names.
A page per practice area, not a list
Name the practice area the way clients say it. Add the courts and counties you cover, how fees work and what a first meeting involves. ChatGPT can quote that page. It cannot quote a homepage bullet that says "personal injury".
Attorney bios with bar admissions
Clients want to know who will handle their case. Give each attorney a page with their name, role, bar admissions and education as plain facts. Then ChatGPT has a person to describe, not only a firm name.
Avvo, Justia and state bar listings that agree
A search for a lawyer in a city can return directory profiles beside firm sites: Avvo, Justia, your state bar’s lookup. When those show the same firm name, offices and practice areas as your site, ChatGPT has one firm to name.
Consultation and fee terms in words
Clients ask whether the first consultation is free and whether you work on contingency. A firm whose pages answer both in text can be named for those questions. "Call to discuss fees" leaves the answer nothing to say.
What three client questions tell a firm, and what they leave out
- A client who asks twice can see two different lists. Growth asks 50 client questions every week and counts how often your firm is named, not whether one answer named it.
- It checks one practice area per run. A firm that takes injury, family and criminal cases has a separate set of rivals in each.
- Clients also name a county, a suburb or a courthouse, not only the city. Those are narrower questions, and each has its own names.
- It reads the answer for your firm name and website. A firm listed under a founding partner’s surname in one place and a brand name in another can be missed under one of them.
Frequently asked questions
Why does ChatGPT name other law firms for my practice area?
The pages it read describe those firms as a fit: the practice area, the city, attorney pages and reviews that agree. Rankli shows every client question your firm is losing and which firm wins it. Then it writes a practice-area guide that answers that question.
Do Rankli’s guides for law firms follow attorney advertising rules?
Every guide for a firm is checked for promised outcomes, claims to be a specialist or expert, and invented case results. A guide with any of them does not publish. Each one ends with a line saying it is attorney advertising and not legal advice. Rankli can also hold every guide as a draft until a lawyer at your firm approves it.
Is the answer here the one a client sees in ChatGPT?
It is the answer ChatGPT gives through OpenAI’s API with web search on, for the question exactly as written. The ChatGPT app can also use a client’s location and past chats, so their list can differ. Rankli asks each question every week, so you judge your firm on a pattern rather than one reply.
Which practice areas should a firm check first?
Start with the area you most want new cases in. Then check the ones clients ask about with a city in the question: injury, family, criminal defense, estate planning. Run each here, one at a time. Rankli then tracks all of them together, 50 client questions a week on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
Is the law firm check free?
Yes. It needs no account and no email. The 7-day free trial puts up to 50 client questions to ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini and lists each one your firm is losing.
