Connect Framer to Rankli

Framer’s CMS is a collection with fields you define. The connection needs a server API key and the collection to write into; we can create a collection with the right shape for you.

Create a server API key#

  1. Open your project in Framer.
  2. Go to Site settings → General → API keys.
  3. Create a server API key and copy it. Framer shows it once.

A server key, not a client key. A client key cannot write to a collection, and the connection test will tell you so rather than failing at the first article.

Pick or create the collection#

Two ways in:

  1. Let us create one. On the connection form, choose Create a new collection and we add a collection with the fields below already in place.
  2. Map an existing one. Choose it from the list and map your field names onto ours. Title must be a text field and Content must be rich text; anything else is rejected at save time.

Rankli article idText, added automatically

The Rankli article id field is how an update finds the item it wrote before. We add it for you; deleting it means later updates create duplicates instead of editing.

Connect it#

  1. In Rankli, open Integrations → New integration → Framer.
  2. Project URL: your published Framer site address.
  3. Server API key: from the first step.
  4. Collection: create a new one, or map an existing one.
  5. Main blog address: optional, e.g. /blog. Used to build anchors in the table of contents so in-page links resolve on your live site.
  6. Save. We read the collection schema as the connection test.

Publishing#

Items are created in the collection and Framer renders them through whatever template your collection page uses. Design the page once; every article after that fills it. Images are uploaded to Framer, so the item does not depend on our storage.

When it does not work#

401

A client key rather than a server key, or a key from a different project.

The item exists but the page shows nothing

The collection has no collection page bound to it in the Framer editor. Framer stores the item either way; publishing the page is a design step on your side.

Updates create duplicates

The Rankli article id field was removed from the collection. Add a text field with that name back and the next update matches again.
