How AI decides which businesses to name

An assistant names the businesses its sources describe clearly as a fit for the question. It gets those sources two ways, and your pages can reach both.

  • The pages it finds when it searches

    For many questions the assistant searches the web while it answers, reads what comes back and names the businesses those pages describe. A page that answers the question in its first lines, with prices and places in the text, is a page it can quote.

  • What it learned in training

    For other questions it answers from memory, with no search. It recalls the businesses that many pages across the web described the same way. That memory changes slowly, mostly when the model is updated.

  • Other sites that name you

    Review sites, directories, comparison pages and forums describe businesses too. A business that several independent sources name for the same need gives the assistant one clear story.

  • Facts it can read

    What you sell, who it is for, where you work and what it costs, in words on a page it can fetch. A fact missing from your pages is a sentence the answer cannot write about you.
