The check asks ChatGPT 3 questions with web search on, the way a customer's question reaches it: 1. Which brands come to mind for protein powder for women, and what is each one known for? 2. I need protein powder for women. Which brands are worth buying and which should I avoid? 3. Name the brands people trust most for protein powder for women and say why. (Shown with the page's example values; the check fills in yours.) For each answer it shows whether ChatGPT named your business, who it named instead, and which sites it read. An answer to the same question is shared for 7 days, and the report says when it was given. ## Questions where an AI model names brands Brand mentions happen when a buyer asks a category question and the model answers with names. These are the question shapes that decide which brands an AI model brings up unprompted. - Which sunscreen brands do dermatologists recommend for daily use? - What brands make the most reliable cordless drills for home use? - Which meal replacement shake brands are actually healthy? - What are the most trusted brands of baby car seats? - Which project management software brands do remote teams like best? - Which coffee subscription brands are worth the price? - What VPN brands are safe to use for banking abroad? - Which mattress brands have the best reputation for side sleepers? The check asks 3. On Growth, Rankli asks 50 of yours every week on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. ## The three kinds of AI brand mention Counting every time a model types your brand name hides what matters. A buyer acts on a recommendation, trusts a source it can open, and mostly skims past a name dropped in passing. ### Recommended in the shortlist The strongest mention: the model puts your brand in the list it tells the buyer to consider. When the answer gives a list, the check shows your place in it, such as #2. ### Mentioned in passing A brand named as an example, a comparison or a warning is still a mention, but not a recommendation. The check shows it as named, with no place in a list. ### A link to your site When the model searches the web, the check lists the sites the answer read. A link to your website in the answer counts as a mention even when the answer spells your brand differently. ### The brands mentioned instead Each answer shows up to five other brands it named, and the report counts how many answers named each. That list is your competition in AI answers, which is not always your competition in search. ## What one brand mention check leaves out - This check asks through OpenAI’s API, which is not the consumer app, so it sees no one person’s location or history. - It asks ChatGPT, or Claude or Gemini when ChatGPT cannot answer, with Perplexity as a second opinion, and says which assistant gave each answer. Claude and Gemini can name other businesses for the same question. - Three questions on one day is a sample. Nicknames, old names and product names that do not include the brand are not counted, so enter the name buyers use. ## Questions ### Which LLM does this brand mention checker ask?
