# Why is my business not showing up on ChatGPT? > Not showing up on ChatGPT? Ask it three questions your customers ask and see who it names instead, the sites it read and whether it searched the web. Type your business and what you sell. We ask ChatGPT three questions your customers ask, with web search on, and show what stood in your place: who it named, which sites it read and whether it searched at all. - Page: [Why is my business not showing up on ChatGPT?](https://www.rankli.io/tools/why-is-my-business-not-showing-up-on-chatgpt) - Free, with no account and no email. ## How the check works You give your business name and what you sell, and where if it matters, and your website if you want a link to it to count. The check asks ChatGPT 3 questions with web search on, the way a customer's question reaches it: 1. I want the best kitchen remodeling in Columbus. Who would you suggest? 2. A friend needs the best kitchen remodeling in Columbus. Where would you send them? 3. Name a few contenders for the best kitchen remodeling in Columbus and say what each is known for. (Shown with the page's example values; the check fills in yours.) For each answer it shows whether ChatGPT named your business, who it named instead, and which sites it read. An answer to the same question is shared for 7 days, and the report says when it was given. ## Other ways to ask when ChatGPT leaves you out Every wording gets its own answer, and a business can be missing from one and named in the next. If the check misses you, these are the shapes worth trying by hand. - Who does good kitchen remodels in Columbus for under $40,000? - Which accounting firm should a new dental practice use? - Can you suggest a pediatric dentist in Sacramento with weekend hours? - What scheduling tool suits a small physical therapy clinic? - Which bakery in Pittsburgh makes gluten-free birthday cakes? - Who are the most trusted pest control companies in Atlanta? - Which IT support company works with small law offices in Chicago? - Is there a dog groomer near Madison who is good with anxious dogs? The check asks 3. On Growth, Rankli asks 50 of yours every week on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. ## Common reasons ChatGPT leaves a business out Each of these leaves a trace in the answer itself, and the report shows that trace beside every question it asked. ### Another business fits the question more clearly ChatGPT names the businesses its sources describe as a match for the exact question asked. The report lists who it named in your place for each question, so you can open their pages and see what they say that yours does not. ### The sites it read never mention you With search on, ChatGPT reads a handful of sites before it answers: directories, roundups, reviews, other businesses. The report lists the sites behind each answer and counts it when one of them is your own website. ### It answered from memory, without searching For some questions ChatGPT skips the search and answers from what it learned in training, which can predate your business or your newest pages. The report says, answer by answer, whether it searched the web or not. ### You get a mention, not a recommendation Your name or your website can appear in an answer without being put forward as a pick. The report tells a recommendation, with your place in the list, apart from a passing mention or a link to your site. ### Its search crawler is turned away OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot are not shown in ChatGPT search answers. That is a line in your robots.txt, and the free AI readiness check reads it for OAI-SearchBot and the other answer crawlers by name. ## What the report can explain, and where it stops - It asks three questions through OpenAI’s API with web search on. The ChatGPT app can also draw on a person’s location, memory and past chats, so a customer may be shown a different list. - If ChatGPT cannot answer just then, the check asks another assistant, Claude first, and the report names the one that answered. That answer shows what an assistant reads, not ChatGPT’s own list. - It shows what each answer contained, not the model’s reasoning. The names in your place, the sites read and whether it searched are the evidence; the reasons above are how to read them. - One run is one moment, and the same question can name someone else next week. Growth asks 50 questions every week and counts how often you appear. - It matches your business name and your website. If customers know you by a shorter name, run it again with that one. ## Questions ### Why is my business not showing up on ChatGPT? Usually because the sites ChatGPT read for that question describe other businesses as the fit and say nothing clear about yours. Sometimes it did not search at all and answered from training. The check above shows which happened for each question, and Rankli tracks it every week. ### Is ChatGPT blocking or penalizing my business? There is no penalty list to be on. The one block in your hands is robots.txt: OpenAI says a site that blocks OAI-SearchBot is not shown in ChatGPT search answers. The free AI readiness check on Rankli reads that setting for you. ### How long after I fix my pages will ChatGPT show my business? Where ChatGPT searches, a new or clearer page can be read the next time it looks. Answers given from memory change slowly, mostly when the model is updated. Rankli asks your questions again 7 and 14 days after each new page goes live, so you can see which kind moved. ### Does ChatGPT show the same businesses to everyone? No. The wording, the day and what a person asked before all change the answer, and the ChatGPT app can use location and memory. One check is a snapshot; Rankli asks the same questions every week and reports how often you are named. ### Does this check cost anything? No, and it needs no account or email. For more than three questions, the 7-day free trial of Rankli asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini up to 50 of yours. ## Related checks - [Is my business on ChatGPT?](https://www.rankli.io/tools/is-my-business-on-chatgpt): Find out in a minute whether ChatGPT names your business when a stranger asks for one like yours. - [How to get recommended by ChatGPT](https://www.rankli.io/tools/how-to-get-recommended-by-chatgpt): Start from where you stand: see which questions ChatGPT answers with your name and which it gives to someone else. - [ChatGPT visibility checker](https://www.rankli.io/tools/chatgpt-visibility-checker): Does ChatGPT recommend your business?
