For each answer it shows whether Gemini named your business, who it named instead, and which sites it read. An answer to the same question is shared for 7 days, and the report says when it was given. ## The questions people put to Gemini before they buy People ask Gemini the way they search Google, then ask it to do the comparing for them. On Growth, Rankli asks 50 of yours every week on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. ## What Gemini reads before it names a business Google says Gemini can take content from the Google Search index while it writes an answer. So the first question is whether Google can find your page. The second is whether your settings let Gemini use it. ### Pages in Google’s search index When Gemini searches, it draws on the Google Search index. If Google cannot crawl a page, or it asks to stay out of search results, Gemini’s web answers pass it by. ### One setting that covers training and answers Blocking Google-Extended in your site settings covers two things. Google will not use your pages to train Gemini or to back its answers (Google calls this grounding). Google says it leaves your place in Google Search as it is. ### Review sites and roundups Google returns For a buying question, Google Search returns review sites, directories and comparison articles beside business sites. A business those pages name, with the same facts as its own site, is an easy one for Gemini to pick. ### A price and a place in plain text Gemini questions often carry a budget or a town. State your prices, the area you serve and your hours in words, and Gemini has the fact the question turns on. "Call for a quote" gives it nothing to compare. ## What three Gemini answers tell you, and what they leave out - Gemini writes each answer when it is asked, so names can shift from one day to the next. Growth asks Gemini 50 of your questions every week and reports how often you are named. - The check asks through Google’s Gemini API with Google Search on. The Gemini app can also use a person’s location, Google account and past chats, so one buyer can see a different list. - Gemini decides for itself whether a question needs a search. Google describes giving Gemini content from the Google Search index at the moment a question is asked.
